Over the weekend, the United States bombed [three nuclear facilities in Iran](https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/21/world/iran-israel-trump). Iran has been considered a political risk to America since the [1979 revolution](https://www.brookings.edu/articles/1979-iran-and-america/), and President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that it [cannot be allowed](https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/2025/06/president-trump-has-always-been-clear-iran-cannot-have-a-nuclear-weapon/) to possess nuclear weapons. The strikes mark yet another attempt in a long-running US strategy to rein in Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

It doesn’t help that his plan around the attacks has felt haphazard. Even just before the bombs were dropped Trump was telling the press that targeting nuclear facilities may not even be an option, saying “[I may or I may not do it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5XjMC1QN3g).” Trump stated in his 2024 election victory speech that he was “[not going to start a war](https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-victory-speech-full-transcript-1981234),” yet he has now hinted on social media that [regime change](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jun/23/trump-administration-news-updates-today) could be next.

I don’t think Iran has the alliances to escalate this conflict.  I think Russia and china would be happy to sit back and watch us get embroiled in yet another conflict but I don’t think they would take any action on irans side.  There have been scattered conflicts but I don’t see Ukraine or the Middle East escalating to engulf the world.  The concerning one to me is tiawan.  That one could look very different that Ukraine or any other conflict zone.  Hopefully governments will stop warmongering and calm down.

China won’t move on Taiwan, they aren’t in position to actually pull it off, the world reaction to Russia invading Ukraine means they would face sanctions and weapons aid to Taiwan, and then there is no profit in it. What China wants is the semi conductor and chip factories and the know how to use them, and they don’t gain that through a shooting war.

The US dropping some bombs in Iran doesn't really give much opportunity for China to attack Taiwan.  The US military has proven multiple times that it is more than capable of fighting wars on 2 fronts, and an aerial bombing campaign isn't even a full scale war.

Russia isn't going to commit suicide for them by attacking the united states or an adult of the united states. China isn't either. So that leaves north Korea. There’s so many things wrong with this post. First and foremost the defense of Taiwan should not be even part of the conversation the US owes absolutely nothing to that breakaway quasi-state. Also China will not be attacking or retaking its own territory anytime soon because it has no reasons to, China unlike the US has shown a far more restrained and logical foreign policy than the west. As for Iran likewise the US has no place being involved in the conflict, if Iran and Israel want to fight it out they should. Neither side is clean they’re both horrible people in their own ways what Iran was doing in Syria for the past decade was no different than what Israel has done in Gaza. 

Iran and Israel are both countries run by hot heads and egotistical lunatics that are trying to impose a vision on the rest of the world and want to drag the US in. Believe it or not Iran would welcome an American invasion and involvement so they can play the victim card and rally the entire Islamic world behind them even Sunnis to cross the religious divide, they’d see it as the fulfillment of a prophecy as the battle of the end times and all sorts of other fun stuff like that. Russia and China would also sit back and watch laughing at America falling for the middle east football again. 

What’s really more pathetic is that Oman, Turkey and Russia are more capable and suitable forums for negotiations and peace talks than the US. Putin is able to call Netanyahu and Iran’s president on the same day and have a friendly conversation with both and claim good relations with both. Oman hosts the conversations between Iranian and American negotiators, and Turkey is a member of NATO that borders Iran and has been engaged in a proxy war against them in Syria for a decade, with times where Iranian and Turkish troops were shooting each other yet Turkey has a stable and pragmatic relationship with Iran. Yet the US is risking escalating and enflaming this conflict and risks becoming beat down in yet another forever war for its “greatest ally” that has absolutely nothing to do with us. 

You’re asking the wrong questions, the question should be why do even care what other countries do.

I'm not sure why China would see this as an opportunity to invade Taiwan. Any US attack would be focused on Iran's nuclear facilities, so it wouldn't monopolize US naval assets.

The next window for an invasion of Taiwan is in October (the seas are only calm enough for an amphibious assault in April and October). A naval blockade could happen at any time, but there would likely be signs of preparation by China (hoarding, etc.), that we are not seeing at the moment.

A Chinese takeover of Taiwan would usher in a global recession at least as bad as 2008. If it sparked a hot war between China and the US, there could be a global *depression*. China will only take that step if they are convinced they will win.

Iran's geography renders it nearly impossible to invade/occupy, so there is no chance of a major ground war.  
  
Iran has few options to strike back, and if they get too aggressive, the US has the option of ending Iran's ability to export oil by sea (Iran’s Kharg Island in the Gulf is a major crude terminal and trade hub handling 90% of Iranian crude oil exports).

Anything's possible, but my guess is that this ends with Iran's nuclear program degraded but not destroyed, and only token reprisals by the Iranians.

America lost to China once already in Korea, then lost to Vietnam, then lost in Afghanistan, pretended to not lose in Iraq... the American military is a joke and they know that. China's main concern is subverting US economic hegemony through it's Belt and Road initiative, and a destabilized Middle East makes that incredibly difficult.

Whether this means China will use Iran as a proxy to wage war against US/Israeli forces, I'm unsure, but there is a distinct possibility that they could become involved, which opens up the window for WWIII.

Attacking American bases would be a strategic error. The American public is overwhelmingly opposed to a new war in the Middle East and Trump's approval ratings are already at historic lows. Attacking American forces risks drawing them into the conflict, and they have capabilities that the Israelis (like bunker busting bombs capable of striking buried iranian nuclear sites). Part of Israel's angle here in attacking Iran directly is to force a conflict with the US, this would play into their hands.
